Our special post offices open for very special occasions only: for the issue of special issue stamps (first day), on the occasion of exhibits, trade fairs, small and large events, anniversary celebrations etc.

On official issue days (first days) of new stamps, the new stamps are cancelled with an official Austrian Post special postmark at the special post office. Special postmarks are also available at special post offices for selected occasions at the request of stamp collectors' associations, businesses, organizations and other event organizers. Our special post offices offer more than special postmarks: we have a lot of attractive items for stamp enthusiasts.

As a special service to collectors of special issue stamps, we have compiled a list of detailed addresses anddates of our latest special post offices throughout Austria, available for download in PDF format (available in German only).

By the way: the images of special postmarks used on official issues/first days are all created by the artist who designed the special issue stamp in question. This makes special postmarks true pieces of art in their own right, designed with loving attention to detail.

In the event that there is more than one official special postmark for one newly issued stamp, postmarks will bear distinctive marks.
