A stack of envelopes

For your international letter mail items, Austrian Post offers two delivery options: Priority and Economy.

Items sent with the Priority option  are shipped by air or the fastest means of transportation available. Priority items are treated preferentially in the country of posting and the country of destination. The average shipping time is 2 to 4 days in Europe and 3 to 7 days to other desinations. Please label your letter mail item as Priority on the address label, using the Priority sticker provided by Austrian Post (available at all postal service points free of charge).

Our Economy option is the most inexpensive shipping solution and offers great value. It's the perfect choice for all your letter mail items that are not time sensitive.

For the time being, we cannot ship international items to Syria.

Use traditional letter mail to add a personal touch to your correspondence with your business partners around the world.   

The following additional services are available: registered mail, advice of delivery, deliver to addressee only, insured letter, cash-on-delivery.

International Letter Mail Plus is an inexpensive option for sending your international mail.


  • Minimum of 20 letters per batch (optional: payment of an additional fee if minimum is not reached)
  • Minimum of EUR 15 per batch (including any additional services)
  • Must include posting list completed as per instructions
  • Postage must have been paid with Austrian Post's "postage paid" indicia

The following additional services are available: registered mail, advice of delivery, deliver to the addressee in person, cash-on-delivery.

Newspapers and magazines may be sent to international destinations at our Inernational Letter Plus rate.


  • The publication must be an authorized daily, weekly or monthly newspaper or magazine as defined in the General Terms and Conditions of Austrian Post.
  • Items must be posted by the publisher or editor.

Shipping as M-bag International is available for newspapers, magazines, books, brochures, music scores and maps, provided that specific criteria are met. Customers may add an invoice, a delivery note, a copy of the order form for books as well as a loose note.


  • M-Bags may be posted at Austrian Post service locations only
  • Tie the bag with a cord or strap that comes off easily and is easy to attach after having been removed.
  • Use a highly resistant tag for the address, which needs to include the following information: the recipient's address, postage, total weight of the bag and information about extra services, if applicable.

Our International Business Reply Service is an excellent option for reaching out to potential clients and staying in touch with existing clients.
International Business Reply Service can be used in direct mail campaigns as a response element (letters or cards). Sending them back is free of charge for recipients, which ensures high response rates. You as a client will only be charged for actually returned response items. Please note that to be able to use this service, you must first sign a deferred paymet agreement with Austrian Post or as an alternative, a PO box address must appear as the sender. International Business Reply Service meets international standards and can therefore be used anywhere in the world. Letter mail rates for international mail with the option Priority (rate zone Europe) also apply to letters and newspapers sent from and to military post offices abroad.

Currently, three military post offices are in operation:

  • 1502 AUTCON EUFOR (Bosnia-Herzegovina)
  • 1503 AUTCON KFOR (Kosovo)
  • 1504 AUTCON UNIFIL (Lebanon)

Possible additional service: registered mail

The following items quality for International Delivery of Literature for the Blind: Braille publications, sound recordings and special papers intended solely for the use of blind people, provided that they are sent by or addressed to an officially recognised institute for the blind. The following criteria must be met: Items must

  • be sent unsealed
  • be identified as “Blindensendung – Envois pour les aveugles” in the franking area
  • include the information “do not postmark” if no additional services are required

Items shipped as Literature for the Blind may not include any notes, personal documents or documents of current relevance. They may not include cancelled stamps or stamps in mint condition or special-value items. Literature for the blind is exempt from postal charges with the exception of extra services.
