A1 roaming - all information at a glance
Are you going on holiday soon and don't know if you will have to pay roaming charges? In this section, you will find comprehensive information about roaming.
Talk on the phone, send text messages and surf the Internet just as if you were at home. Starting 15 June 2017, your domestic rate will also apply to roaming services in all EU member states* as well as Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland. These new rules apply to roaming in EU and EEA states only. You will be using EU or EEA roaming as soon as you travel to one of these destinations.
Phone calls from Austria to other countries are not considered roaming and are not affected by these new rules.
The roaming rule applies to EU and EEA countries only. Switzerland is not included!
In addition, airplanes, ships and ferries will be exempt from the roaming rules starting 4 September 2017 until probably late 2017, which means that roaming charges will apply.
Use the minutes, text messages, MMS and MB included in your package in all EU member states*, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland.
You can use all minutes, text messages and MMS included in your rate in all EU member states without any limitations.
If you have chosen a rate without included minutes, text messages, MMS and MB, you will be charged the same rates as if you were in Austria.
If your domestic rate varies depending on the network you are calling, you will be charged the domestic rate to other networks.
To check how many units are included in your rate, please see the My A1 app, My A1 or talk to our A1 experts at your postal branch.

The EU regulation determines if you can use your entire data package or just a part of it in the EU. Your data limit is based on the data-calculation formula**.
To learn how high your data volume for the EU is from 15 June 2017 onwards, please check the My A1 app, My A1 or talk to an A1 expert at your postal branch.
The data will be updated yearly on 1 January.
You will be able to continue using all minutes, text messages and MMS included in your rate in all EU member countries* without any limitations.
All A1 clients will receive a text message as soon as they have used 75 to 100% of their data volume. If you use up your EU data volume while in an EU country*, A1 will send you a text message as soon as additional roaming charges apply.
The EU regulation ensures that you will be able to use your domestic rate in all EU member countries* during business trips and vacations. However, the regulation does not cover permanent or predominant use in other EU countries. For example, it would be considered a violation of the fair use policy if you moved to Germany and kept using your A1 SIM card as you did before in Austria.
If a user uses the rate over a period of 4 months mostly or exclusively in the EU* or in Liechtenstein, Iceland or Norway, A1 will get in touch with this client. If she or he does not change her or his usage, roaming charges in all EU and EEA countries will apply after 14 days, in addition to the domestic rate.
Detailed roaming charges:

When roaming charges apply, the following billing increments will be used: for active phone calls, an increment of 30/1 (seconds) will apply and for passive phone calls, an increment in seconds of 1/1 will apply. Effective 15 June 2017, A1 will no longer be offering EU roaming packages.
For non-EU countries as well as non-EEA countries, we still offer attractive roaming packages for phone calls and data. For more information, please talk to our A1 experts at your local postal branch.
