As the country’s largest logistics company, Austrian Post bears a special responsibility to the environment which it aims to fulfil on the basis of Group-wide environmental protection measures.
The focus of Austrian Post’s environmental protection measures is the CO2 NEUTRAL DELIVERY initiative, which Austrian Post launched in the year 2011 to continually and extensively reduce its environmental impacts, especially the greenhouse gas emissions it generates.
The initiative consists of three synchronized steps:
1. Efficiency increases in the vehicle fleet and buildings
2. Alternative technologies (renewable energies and e-mobility)
3. Compensation for remaining emissions
The success of this initiative is demonstrated by the results. Austrian Post has been delivering all mail items within Austria in a CO2 neutral manner since 2011. Accordingly, it is a leader in this area in the international logistics sector.
Environmental management system ISO 14001
In addition, Austrian Post pursues the expansion of its environmental management systems as defined by ISO 14001:2015.
Starting in 2016, the first certified environmental management systems as defined by ISO 14001:2015 were introduced at the Letter Mail Centre Vienna. In 2017 and 2018, our subsidiary Medien.Zustell GmbH received the ISO 14001:2015 certification. In 2018, the ISO 14001 environmental management system will be implemented at the Parcel Centre in Wernberg/Carinthia.
All management systems focus on improving processes on a continuous basis. To achieve that, we define annual goals and steps that will help us improve our environmental performance at our facilities. First and foremost, we strive to reduce energy consumption, reduce waste, raise awareness among our employees and strategically manage environmental aspects for specific locations. Thanks to a yearly evaluation, TÜV Austria helps us improve our environmental management system.
