Issuance of special postage stamp "Alpine Skiing World Championship 2001 in St. Anton am Arlberg" advanced to December 15, 2000
Pressemeldung from 27.11.2000
The Alpine Skiing World Championship in St. Anton am Arlberg is one of the most important 2001 events in Austria, as this country will have to wait twenty years at least before it will again have a chance to organise such a world championship. Österreichische Post AG takes this opportunity to issue a special postage stamp.
Tourism industry, hotels, as well as the organising province Tyrol having looked for the possibility to have this special stamp ready for sending thousands of invitations, validity date which originally was planned to be January 26, 2001, has been advanced to December 15, 2000, advance sales commencing on December 7, 2000.
Stamps are the most important image medium Österreichische Post AG has. They are a high quality "branded product", as shown once more by the fact that the "1000 Years of Austria" block was awarded this year in Rome the first place of category "Stamp of the Centenary".
As up-to-date service company, Österreichische Post AG proved many a time to be very flexible in adapting to customers requests - one example being the recent issuance of the Hundertwasser souvenir sheet.
Erich Oberlechner, head of the Stamp Department, and in charge of Österreichische Post AG's stamps issuance policy, stresses this fact when saying "the stamp is of utmost importance for the company's image, but also for that of the State Printing office, and, seen in the context of an event arousing world wide interest and passion, like the Alpine Skiing World Championship 2001, for the image of Austrian economy in general!"
