2000

International Design Award!

Pressemeldung from 24.08.2000

A special high quality design award of the "Deutscher Preis für Kommunikationsdesign" (German Award for Communication Design) has been awarded to the book "150 Jahre Österreichische Briefmarke" (150 Years of Austrian Postage Stamps) designed by Studio Alessandri on behalf Österreichische Post AG.

This was the second international award for this book, as it was already awarded the "Joseph Binder Award" in the category publication design in July 2000.

Some 1000 designers and more than 100 customers coming from 16 different countries took part with more than 2300 works in the latest competition "Deutscher Preis für Kommunikationsdesign" organised by Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen since 1993, and funded with 20 000.00 DEM.

This book published by Österreichische Post AG, and works of other prize winners will be presented to international press end of November 2000; thereafter they may all be seen in a special exhibition in Essen, Germany.

First presentation of this book which got many awards took place end of May on the occasion of WIPA 2000, the most important international philatelic exhibition, which also was devoted to this anniversary of Austrian postage stamps. Whoever took an early chance to buy book the first edition of which was immediately sold out, made a good affair, as the philatelic gift enclosed to the first edition - a non perforated block in grey and blue print - is already worth today ATS 1200.00.

Mr. Wais, C.E.O. of Österreichische Post AG, a very keen philatelist himself, is especially pleased with "a product having proved, by all these awards, that his company is very up to date, even in the design sector".
