2001

This year, Österreichische Post AG will deliver letters and parcels also on the last Saturday before Christmas

Pressemeldung from 29.11.2001

Delivery all over Austria - this year also on Saturday, 22 December 2001

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the volume of letters and parcels sent in Austria is significantly higher than the average value for the rest of the year. For this reason, Österreichische Post AG has prepared particularly well for the time leading up to Christmas and New Year's Eve this year.

Letters and parcels will be delivered also on 22 December
On the last Saturday before Christmas, the staff of Österreichische Post AG will work an "extra shift" to be able to deliver the expected flood of letters and parcels in time before Christmas. Everywhere in Austria, the postal service will deliver letters and parcels on Saturday, 22 December 2001. In addition, customers of Österreichische Post AG will be able, on 15 and 22 December 2001, to collect letters and parcels from those post offices that are open on Saturdays.

Opening times of post offices on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve The main post offices and railway station post offices in the capitals of the Austrian provinces as well as the post offices at 1010 Vienna, 1090 Vienna, 1103 Vienna, 1150 Vienna and 1300 Vienna Airport will have the same opening times on 24 and 31 December as they have on normal working days. Cashpoints will be open until 12.00 noon on these two days.

International parcels
Parcels sent to destinations abroad should generally be posted well in advance, especially if their destinations are countries outside the European Union.
  • Standard parcels inside Europe until the beginning of December 2001
  • "Europarcels" until 11 December 2001
  • "Schnelles Paket" outside Europe until the beginning of December 2001
  • "Schnelles Paket" inside Europe until 6 December 2001

International letters
What has been said above holds also for letter-post items sent abroad. In this case, too, care should be taken to post such items in time.
  • Priority service inside Europe until 17 December, outside Europe until 10 December 2001.
  • Non-Priority service inside Europe until 10 December, outside Europe until the end of November.

"Christmas present" sticker
This year, again, all post offices will offer a sticker saying "Christmas present, please do not open before Christmas Eve!". If requested by the sender, this sticker will be put onto parcels and larger letter-post items.

Labelling and packaging of postal items
Österreichische Post AG asks its customers to provide items with a complete and clearly legible address and to provide sufficiently robust packaging for parcels.

The "extra shift" worked for the first time on Saturday, 22 December, and the delivery of postal items on 24 December 2001 will enable Österreichische Post AG to deliver all items before Christmas Eve given timely posting.
