Pressemeldung from 27.04.2001
"a-sign", the DATACOM AUSTRIA certificate available in six Austrian post offices as of May 2, 2001.
As of May 2, 2001, certified digital signatures are available at post offices 1010 Vienna, 4010 Linz, 5014 Salzburg, 6010 Innsbruck, and 8010 Graz, as Österreichische Post AG, co-operating with DATAKOM AUSTRIA, will serve as certifying office for digital signatures.
A choice of three digital signatures will be available in the above mentioned post offices:
"a-sign Strong" and "a-sign Strong plus" (chip-card included) may be used to sign and decode e-mails and other electronic documents, and to get authorisation by web servers. Certificate warrants "privacy of electronic correspondence" as well as legal security in commercial Internet transactions.
In June 2001 Österreichische Post AG will most probably also offer the "a-sign Premium", certificate for utmost security. "a-sign Premium" fulfils all requirements of Austrian signatures act and EU directives on qualified certificates, and is to be considered as personal signature according to the Austrian signatures act. "a-sign Premium" will serve authentication of any contract concluded using the Internet.
The above mentioned post offices also make available chip card readers required for authentication.
Österreichische Post AG furthermore guarantees identity control and security in delivery of certificates by very competent finance consultants at post offices.
"Complicated contacts with official services requiring personal identification and signatures will be replaced, in future, by digital signature. Digital signatures now made available by Österreichische Post AG will open official digital channels to the public," says Walter Trezek, head of Österreichische Post AG's section for new technology applications.
End of 2002 some 200 post offices will ensure country-wide coverage for registration of digital signatures.
