Österreichische Post AG and Kodak – two market leaders jointly launch new photo service
1,669 post offices and 22,000 letter boxes turned into photo service points
On 31 March 2003, Österreichische Post will launch a new service together with Kodak, market leader in the field of photo finishing in Austria. Photo services available from the post office. All 1,669 post offices and 22,000 letter boxes all over Austria as well as 5,000 postal delivery staff members in rural regions will be at your service. Österreichische Post AG and Kodak offer two types of photo finishing: Customers can either order photo service order envelopes free of charge and pay for their finished pictures upon collection or buy so-called “home delivery photo service envelopes”. In the latter case, buying the envelope includes paying in advance for photo finishing and delivery of the finished pictures for as many as 40 exposures per film.
Both companies optimistic about success of cooperative venture
“Now, for our customers photo finishing is as easy as posting letters. With an unbeatably large number of outlets and guaranteed discretion in handling, we offer our customers a unique alternative to conventional photo finishing”, comments Gerhard Maierhofer, head of retailing operations at Österreichische Post AG, on the prospects of success for the new service.
“For consumers, the new service offered by Österreichische Post AG makes it even more convenient and easy to get their photos developed. Kodak ensures top-quality finishing”, assures Christian Wimmer, managing director of Kodak in Austria. “It is especially the retailing coverage provided throughout Austria, from urban areas to the remotest parts of the country, which make Österreichische Post AG an interesting partner”.
Special introductory price until 31 May 2003
With both service variants, the consumer does not pay extra for each exposure, as used to be the case, but pays an easy-to-remember package price per film. Until 31 May 2003, Post.at customers can have 24 exposures processed at a special introductory price of only € 3.90, or 36 exposures at only € 4.90.
One million photo service order envelopes will be delivered free of charge to households in Austrian urban areas. Every post office in Austria will stock the envelopes as well.
Shop service: 1,669 collection points all over Austria
The filled envelopes can be deposited either at the next post office, at post partners, directly with the postal delivery staff in rural areas, or by simply dropping them in the next letter box. After four working days, the finished pictures will be waiting to be collected at the specified post office. After the end of the introductory period, that is starting with 1 June 2003, prices for photo finishing will, depending on the number of exposures on a film, range from € 5.90 and 6.90 for Post.at type finishing to € 8.90 and 9.90 for Kodak finishing respectively.
The optimum in comfort and convenience: Home delivery
The price of a home delivery photo service envelope already includes the price for photo finishing and delivery of the finished pictures for as many as 40 exposures per film. Sending off the envelop is the same as for shop service - at a post office, post partner or postal delivery staff member or by dropping it into a letter box. The finished pictures are then delivered by Österreichische Post AG to the specified address. The price for this convenient service is € 9.90. The home delivery photo service envelop is available from all post offices - as are Kodak films.
Absolute discretion guaranteed
One of the key advantages of the new service is the absolute discretion with which the films and pictures are handled. Our staff at the post offices hands over the photo envelope to the customer in person, home delivery envelopes are placed in the respective delivery boxes. This ensures that no outsider can have a look at your personal pictures.
From public service network towards retail-oriented services network
For Österreichische Post AG, the cooperative venture with photo specialist Kodak is another step on the way towards becoming a retail-oriented service provider. At 16 Post.at branch offices, Österreichische Post AG has already been successfully offering an extended range of items from the stationery and office supplies, gifts, books, and CDs sector in addition to classic postal products, financial services and telecommunications and Internet products. In addition, each Post.at outlet provides Internet terminals for web surfing.
In order to meet digital photography requirements, Österreichische Post AG and Kodak are already busy working out a concept for a cooperation on the digital photo market.
