90 Years Salzburg Festival, 1/21/2010
A true institution is turning 90!
2010 is a very special year for the city of Salzburg because the Salzburg Festival will be celebrating its 90th anniversary. The "Großes Festspielhaus" (largest festival concert hall) was built 50 years ago.
For this occasion, the entire city will be turned into a stage, just as the founders of the Salzburg Festival would have liked it.
For the third time, Austrian Post is releasing a special-issue stamp to honour this outstanding cultural event. While the first two stamps were released to celebrate the Festival's 50th and 75th anniversary, respectively, the latest stamp is all about the 90th anniversary.
Here's what makes this event so special:
From 17 July to 26 October 2010, a large Festival Exhibit will be organized in cooperation with several cultural institutions in Salzburg: "The World Stage." The exhibit will feature a stylized stage with multimedia performances, a walk-in encylopedia and many other unique events providing an overview of the Salzburg Festival.
