Sacred Art in Austria - The Melk Cross, Melk Monastery

The Melk Cross is the most valuable and cherished object of Melk Monastery, for it includes bits of wood that are said to be from the cross of Jesus, making it a very valuable relic for the Roman-Catholic church. In our "Sacred Art in Austria" series, Austrian Post is delighted to present the Melk Cross on a special engraved stamp.

On the day of issue, the special post office will be cancelling mail items with the special first-day postmark.
