250th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Vienna Prater
In 1766, the Viennese received a very generous gift: Emperor Joseph II opened the Vienna Prater as a recreational area to the public. This area's name goes back even further in history: in the 12th century, Duke Frederick I gave a few meadows as a gift to the de Prato family, who later used the name Prater. Austrian Post is commemorating the anniversary of the establishment of Vienna Prater with a special-issue postmark.
On the day of issue, the special post office will be cancelling mail items with the special first-day postmark.
