Österreichische Post AG and the Otto Versand mail order company start an innovative joint venture
Pressemeldung from 11.12.2001
Opening of the first "in-house post office" 8404 at the logistics centre of the Otto Versand mail order company.
On Monday, 10 December 2001, Österreichische Post AG opened the in-house post office "8404" at the logistics centre of the Otto Versand mail order company at Kalsdorf near Graz. The start of this co-operative venture is another step on the way to meeting free market requirements and furthering customer orientation.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Mag. Josef Halbmayr, director for sales and marketing, and the two chief executives of Otto Versand, Achim Güllmann and Arnulf Kauch.
Hi-tech and creative workflow planning to increase customer benefit
Innovative ideas, a creative logistics approach, and state-of-the art technologies are characteristic of this innovative project that was developed and implemented jointly by Österreichische Post AG and Otto Versand.
All of the 6.5 million parcels and letters are subjected to postal pre-sorting at the new in-house post office 8404, which is attached to Otto Versand's warehouse, from where they are dispatched directly to the logistics centres in the individual Austrian federal provinces. The fully electronically controlled hi-tech equipment required for this purpose will have been put in place completely by May 2002. This direct dispatch approach avoids time and effort consuming reloading and ensures even more careful handling of the goods being transported. The risk of parcels being damaged or lost is minimised as well. As there are no re-routing processes involved, customers will receive their parcels from Otto Versand even faster than they do now.
