Österreichische Post AG opens "Post-Box" at Vienna's Meiselmarkt

Pressemeldung from 10.08.2001

Post box,, Post-Partner: The new types of post office outlets introduced by Österreichische Post AG
Pilot projects at other locations all over Austria until the end of 2001

On Friday, 10 August 2001, Anton Wais, Österreichische Post AG's CEO, and Josef Halbmayr, member of the Management Board, together with Rolf Huber, head of the district council for Vienna's 15th District, opened what is now the third post office outlet of the "Post-Box" type at Vienna's Meiselmarkt.
The start of operations of new types of post office outlets is part of a large-scale scheme Österreichische Post AG implements in its Branch Network division, a scheme that also comprises further technological upgrading of post offices, intensive training programs for post office staff, and the introduction of new types of products and services.

"Post-Box": Always at your service - at a location near you"
The "Post-Box" is a completely new type of post office operation and will be used primarily at high-customer-frequency locations in larger towns. The "Post-Box" allows customers to use postal and financial services kind of "in passing", saving them extra effort. The basic range of products and services will be supplemented by a comprehensive attractive range of additional products and services. Apart from traditional postal products such as letter mail, parcels, info mail, EMS, and P.S.K. financial services, things such as stationary and office supplies, birthday cards, mobile phones, gifts, stamps and pre-paid cards for phone and Internet use will be on offer, too.

e-point: Computer terminals for customers
From an "e-point" computer terminal, customers can send SMSs, e-mails, and - thanks to a camera installed in the system - also "photo mails" within a matter of seconds. In addition, the e-point serves as an information platform for postal, P.S.K. and real-estate services, provides access to public transport timetable information and airline information services, and allows to handle payment transactions online, via "".
To top it all off, customers can also retrieve information from community, regional, tourism and public authority information systems as well as directly book hotel rooms or hire cars online.

24-hour self-service shopping
The "Post-Box" at Meiselmarkt is open Mondays to Fridays from 8.30 a.m. to 7.00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Outside office hours, customers have access to a self-service machine that sells bonus letters (envelopes with a pre-printed stamp), stamp sets, pre-paid cards for mobile phones and phone booths, pay-safe cards, and envelopes around the clock. And, the "Post-Box" has finally brought an ATM to the Meiselmarkt market and shopping center.

A concept developed to meet customer demands
Österreichische Post AG's type of operations concept, which, apart from the "Post-Box", includes the "" and "Post-Parnter" types of post office outlets, was developed on the basis of information gathered through current market trend analyses and customer opinion polls to meet the top priority demands stated by customers: Attractive locations, enlarged range of products and services, more customer orientation as well as more flexibility.
The preparation of the concept involved both quantitative and qualitative market research studies as well as analyses of domestic and international benchmarks in the fields of retail trade and postal service companies.

Starting from 30 August 2001: "" in Vienna
On 30 August 2001, Österreichische Post AG will open the first "" type outlet at Business Park Vienna Wienerberg, 1109 Vienna.
