Express Mail Service (EMS) now just as fast in the form of a “message”

Pressemeldung from 21.11.2003

Sender and addressee notification via SMS or e-mail -
a new EMS extra service offered by Österreichische Post AG

As of November 2003, the best known express service and market leader in Austria - Österreichische Post AG’s EMS - offers its customers a new service: Sender and addressee notification via SMS or e-mail for domestic EMS items. This new offer enables customers to get spot-on information about the status of delivery.

Sender notification
In the case of important items, it is often vital for the customer to know when the addressee received it. By specifying a mobile phone number or e-mail address upon posting, the sender will be instantly notified via SMS or e-mail once the EMS item has been delivered. If the delivery should fail, the sender also receives a notification via mobile phone or e-mail.

Addressee notification
EMS works fast only if the delivery staff are able to actually hand over the items. To notify the addressee in advance of the time he or she should be at the given address, the sender indicates the addressee’s mobile phone number or e-mail address when posting the EMS item. The addressee will then be informed about the expected delivery time already a day in advance.

A key benefit of these two new extra features is the fact that the notification via text message will reach the addressee even when on the move.
These extra features are available at € 1 each. During the product introduction phase until the end of November 2003, both sender and addressee notification are on offer free of charge.

EMS - the number one among Austria’s express services
With 1,668 post offices and 118 post partners all over Austria as well as 5,000 postal delivery staff members in rural areas, Österreichische Post AG offers an unrivalled number of opportunities to mail express items. EMS items are reliably delivered on the next working day by 12:00 at the latest, and that all over Austria.

No time to waste: EMS delivery by 10 a.m. on the next day
Since 1 May 2003, EMS has been offering an excellent alternative for customers who have no time to waste. For a € 3 surcharge, Österreichische Post AG will deliver EMS items in all of Austria’s provincial capitals no later than by 10 a.m. on the next day (from Monday to Friday). Items can be mailed from every post office in Austria.

Always on time - EMS customer-defined time
Since from May 2003, Österreichische Post AG’s customers cannot only opt for delivery by 10:00 a.m., but also specify precisely the time they want their EMS items to be delivered during the day. From Monday to Friday, customer-defined delivery will be possible in all provincial capitals between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at one-hour intervals, with a tolerance margin of plus/minus 30 minutes. Items can be mailed from every post office in Austria. The price for this convenient extra service is € 9.

EMS weekend
On Saturdays, 123 post offices accept EMS items, on Sundays this service is available at ten post offices. If requested by the customer and against a surcharge of € 3, EMS items are also delivered on Saturdays throughout Austria.

Personal EMS - secure and confidential
Since May 2003, the sender can mark an express item as “personal”, thus ensuring that the item will not be delivered to anybody else but the addressee in person. This extra service, which is being offered for delivery in all of Austria’s provincial capitals, costs € 3.
