With the special issue “Werner Schlager: World Champion Table Tennis 2003”, Österreichische Post AG for the first time ever features a sports star on an Austrian stamp
Today, Thursday, 25 September 2003, Anton Wais, CEO of Österreichische Post AG, presented the new special issue “Werner Schlager: World Champion Table Tennis 2003” at the Vienna “Haus des Sports”.
The Austrian National Printing office has produced 700,000 copies of this stamp with a face value of € 0.55.
Austrian Werner Schlager, who won the world championship in the table tennis men’s singles competition in Paris in May 2003, is the first personality from the world of sports featured on a stamp issued by Österreichische Post AG.
The next stamps dedicated to Austrian sports are already in the pipeline. Soccer will be the main theme of 2004. A stamp block featuring the most famous players in Austrian soccer history, from Bruno Pezzey, Hans Krankl, Herbert Prohaska to Anton Polster and a few others, is scheduled for March 2004. In August 2004, Österreichische Post AG will dedicate a special issue to legendary soccer trainer Ernst Happel.
