Special issue block ”Fireworks”: a dazzling experience.Fascinating fireworks on stamps
It was a “dazzling evening” – so the motto of the event – at Schlosshotel Wilhelminenberg when Dr. Herbert Götz, member of the board of Österreichische Post AG, presented Fireworks, a joint issue by Österreichische Post AG, the Chinese and Hong Kong postal operators.
In cooperation with renowned crystal manufacturer Swarovski, the unique Crystal Fabrics technology was used to apply miniscule crystals onto the stamps. In the onlooker’s eye, this technology creates an unbelievable lively impression of the fireworks depicted on the stamps, which is further heightened by the way the crystals reflect and refract the light.
Among the numerous guests attending the event, Österreichische Post AG was proud to welcome Professor Dr. Richard Trappl, who in his role as university coordinator for East Asia highlighted the good business relations existing between China and Austria.
True to the motto of the new stamps, the visual highlight of the event was a breathtaking firework.
From 22 August 2006, the similarly breathtaking philatelic jewel, of which 350,000 copies have been produced, is available from selected post offices in Austria at a price of € 7.50.
The halftone photogravure stamp was designed by Adolf Tuma and adorned with genuine tiny crystals by Swarovski using the Crystal Fabric procedure.
The block comprises two stamps dedicated entirely to the sparkling fascination of fireworks. The first one depicts a firework over Hong Kong’s Victoria harbor – the magical city is also known as the “Pearl of the East”. The second one shows the Vienna Prater” fairground illuminated by a marvelous firework, with the world-famous Giant Wheel in the foreground.
Dr. Erich Haas, head of Österreichische Post AG philately operations: These stamps are masterworks of innovative design, an expression of a colorful “joie de vivre”!” His enthusiasm was shared by Joanna Choi, vice-president of the Hong Kong Post, who had come specifically to attend this presentation and predicted “a big success for this work of crystal art in Asia”.
