Sending letter mail within Austria
Choose between these two letter-mail products:
ECO letters: the ECO letter offers excellent value for money and is a great choice for items that are not time-sensitive. These letters are delivered within 2 to 3 business days after posting. ECO letters can be posted in all letterboxes and at all Austrian Post service locations. ECO letters can be franked with stamps. Within Austria, all additional services are available for ECO as well as PRIO items.
PRIO letters: this is your best choice for urgent items. At least 95 % of all PRIO letters posted in Austria arrive at their destination on the following business day. This is as fast as it gets.
Rates
The format, weight, and delivery time of your item will determine the applicable rate. To determine the rate, just use our rate calculator. Machine processability is also an important factor (for non-machine processable items, we will charge the next higher rate) – for detailed information about machine processability, please see Addressing & Franking).

Packets M with L + W + H > 900 mm (or with one maximum dimension > 500 mm) may only posted with item tracking. For items in tubes, we can either not provide a certificate of posting if sent as a packet M or provide the additional service “registered mail”. The additional service “item tracking” is not available for items in tubes.

Additional services
In this section, you will find information about our additional services such as registered mail, advice of receipt, and others. Registered mail and other services are available for ECO and PRIO items.
Our additional service "item tracking" is available for the basic products ECO and PRIO packets S and packets M. For smaller formats, an additional charge to send them as packets S is possible. Austrian Post confirms that the item has been posted and documents delivery.
Both sender and recipient can track the item status on post.at using the tracking number. The additional service “item tracking” is not available in combination with other additional services (e.g., registered mail, etc.).
Items larger than length + width + height = 900 mm up to the format L 1000 mm x W 600 mm x H 600 mm can only be sent with the additional service "item tracking".
In addition, your item is insured up to 50 euros in the event of loss, theft or damage
Senders of registered ECO and PRIO items receive confirmation of posting and the delivery of the item is documented. In addition, you can track the journey of your item with the registration number. Information about the current status is available under “Track and trace”. You will see whether the item is ready for collection at a postal branch, has already been delivered, the recipient has refused to accept it, or whether the item had to be returned to you. In addition, your item is insured against loss, theft or damage up to 75 euros.
Please note that valuable items (e.g., money, securities, precious metals) may only be sent as an insured item with a declared value.
An advice of receipt is proof that your registered ECO or PRIO letter has been delivered and that the recipient has signed for it. This advice of receipt will then be forwarded to you and you will be able to see who accepted your item. Advices of receipt are available free of charge at all Austrian Post service locations.
This service is only available in combination with registered mail and for ECO and PRIO items. The information "Übernahmeschein" ("advice of receipt") must be clearly visible on the item's address side.
The item will only be delivered to the recipient or to a person authorised to receive mail on their behalf.
This service is only available in combination with registered mail and for ECO and PRIO items. The information "Eigenhändig" ("deliver to addressee only") must be clearly visible on the item's address side.
This service is only available in combination with “registered mail” and “deliver to addressee only” and for ECO and PRIO items.
The information "Nicht an Postbevollmächtigte" ("do not deliver to persons authorised to receive mail") must be clearly visible on the item's address side above the address.
