Brexit commemorative stamp 27.02.2020

Actual Brexit date was added to previously produced stamp

On 22 January 2020, a commemorative stamp dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Austria’s accession to the EU was released. Just a few days later, on 31 January, the next stamp dedicated to the European Union, namely Brexit, will be issued.
Since 2016, all levels of the EU have been dealing with the issue of Brexit, as it was the first time that a country ever requested to leave the Union. Österreichische Post is now dedicating a commemorative stamp to the United Kingdom’s leaving the EU, the so-called Brexit.

The commemorative released by Österreichische Post is as special and unique as the history of Brexit. Based on the previously scheduled Brexit date of 29 March 2019, a commemorative stamp with this date was initially printed. To visually highlight the new position of the UK, the surface of this country was covered with a bright blue transparent varnish. All EU member states were printed in deep blue using the offset printing technique, while non-member states are shown in white.

The actual Brexit date ended up being not 29 March 2019, but 31 January 2020 – and the initial stamp was updated using an overprinting technique.

The commemorative stamp is available from 31 January 2020 at three service locations.
