Commemorative stamp, Fractal Light

Preciosa Lighting – Fractal Light

Stamp featuring the “Fractal Light” lighting design by Preciosa Lighting, alongside a special cancellation with technical sketch, location and date.

Award-winning design from Austria

The special stamp “Fractal Light” brings the “Design in Austria” series, a collaboration with designaustria, to its “crowning” glory and close.

The Fractal Light chandeliers were designed by the Austrian industrial designer Thomas Feichtner in 2020 for the Czech firm Preciosa Lighting, specialists in crystal and lighting with 300 years of experience in the glass industry. Thomas Feichtner is the head of the Institute for Industrial Design at the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Graz. He designs products for both Austrian and international brands and has received many awards for his work. His works are displayed in numerous design collections, such as that at the MAK in Vienna. Feichtner was awarded the Austrian National Design Award, presented by the Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism and organised by designaustria, in the category “Interior Product Design” in 2022.

Fractals are complex geometric patterns that occur in mathematics and also, in a similar man-ner, in nature. Much like these fractal images, the fractal crystal chandelier is composed of “branches” that are reminiscent of the structure of a tree. These “branches” are made of metal pipes to which hand-polished crystal plates have been attached. The pattern on the crystal plates scatters the light in various directions. Thanks to the modular construction, depending on the particular model, additional light sources and levels can be added – industrial design inspired by nature.
