EN
The legendary Steyr 380a was a classic postbus model used throughout Austria until the 1960s.
After the end of the Second World War, there was a significant demand for commercial vehicles. The Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG, formed in 1934 through the merger of Steyr-Werke and Austro-Daimler-Puchwerke, produced lorries, buses and tractors. Between 1948 and 1953, the company manufactured the Steyr 380, which was based on a modular design allowing for various configurations – from flatbed trucks and buses to tractor units and panel vans. In its Steyr 380a version, the vehicle served for many years as a postbus for Austrian Post. It was known for its robust build and ease of maintenance. Equipped with a Steyr WD 413 diesel engine delivering 85 horsepower, the bus provided seating for 25 passengers. As it had no luggage compartment, baggage was stored on a roof rack accessed via a rear-mounted ladder.
