Commemorative stamp, Avis Type 2/3
EN
The Avis Aircraft and Automobile Works in Brunn am Gebirge began operations in 1924, producing both aircraft and motor vehicles.
During the interwar period, Avis automobiles became a familiar sight on the roads – serving as taxis, passenger cars, sports cars, and delivery vehicles. However, production had to cease in the 1930s. The company’s first production model was the Type 2, followed by the Type 3 in 1925. Due to the minimal differences between the two, both model names were often used interchangeably. Despite its modest 4/20 hp four-stroke two-cylinder engine, the vehicle proved reliable even in mountainous terrain and on unpaved roads. Thanks to its low engine power, it qualified for the lowest tax category, making it affordable for a broader segment of the population. The car depicted on the stamp – an Avis Type 2/3 – is the only known surviving example. It was discovered in 2021 and painstakingly restored.
