Commemorative stamp, Christmas – birth of Jesus

Christmas – birth of Jesus, St. Leonhard parish church

Christmas stamp with stained glass nativity scene and special postmark from Bad St. Leonhard am Wald.

The Christmas stamp depicts an ornate Gothic stained glass window showing the Holy Family with the newborn baby Jesus. The parish and pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard is one of the most beautiful Gothic religious buildings in Carinthia. It is known for having the largest collection of Gothic stained glass windows in the province. The approximately 140 valuable glass paintings from the period between 1340 and 1400 originate from the Judenburg workshops, which were famous for their craftsmanship, and depict scenes from the lives of Jesus and St. Leonhard.
