Once again this year, the EUROPA Stamp Competition invites the public to choose the most beautiful stamp in Europe – a cultural highlight for philatelists and history enthusiasts alike. This year’s theme is "National archaeological discoveries", shining a spotlight on fascinating finds from the past that bring our historical heritage to life.
Austria’s entry: The Hallstatt Burial Ground
Austria enters the competition with a particularly striking special stamp: “Gräberfeld von Hallstatt” (Hallstatt Burial Ground) honours one of Europe’s most significant archaeological sites. The stamp features a historic excavation map alongside an intricately crafted bronze vessel adorned with animal figures – a design masterpiece by Marion Füllerer. The Hallstatt Burial Ground, which gave its name to the entire Hallstatt Culture, is among the most important sites of the Early Iron Age and a symbol of Austria’s rich cultural heritage.
