Austria Post has started the year 2026 with a very special highlight: the new Fairy tales stamp series invites collectors and enthusiasts alike to rediscover the magic of classic stories. The series opens with what is probably the most famous fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm – Little Red Riding Hood.

The new commemorative stamp “Little Red Riding Hood”

The first stamp in the series depicts Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf – a scene that evokes fond memories of childhood. Generations of children have grown up with the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, first published in the early 19th century as Children’s and Household Tales. To this day, these stories continue to be read and retold with great enthusiasm.

For the design of the stamp, original illustrations by Dora Brandenburg Polster (1911) were artistically reworked. A defining feature is the colour highlighting of the main character, which gives the motif a particularly vivid appearance. The stamp was issued in a print run of 350,000 copies and produced using high-quality offset printing by Cartor Security Printers. The design was created by Marion Füllerer.

The new postcard booklet “Once upon a time…”

To accompany the special stamp, a new postcard booklet has been released, featuring six beautifully illustrated fairy-tale motifs. Each card showcases a colourful illustration and is ideal for sending a small message to fairy-tale lovers.

The booklet contains six postcards and six stamps with a total face value of 6.00 euros.

The varied motifs transport viewers into the enchanting world of clever children, brave princes, cunning witches and talking animals – a universal treasure that has lost none of its fascination despite its age.
