Mother-daughter duo
Dani and Vanessa are not only mother and daughter, but also colleagues at Austrian Post. Their story illustrates how varied roles at Austrian Post can be and how generations can learn from each other and grow.
Dani has been with Austrian Post for over 15 years and has worked her way through many roles – from delivery to regional management. Since 2023, she has been working as an apprenticeship coordinator in HR development, supporting young people as they start their careers.
“I accompany our apprentices from their very first day through to the end of their training,” Dani explains. “I’m the point of contact for the vocational school, for parents, trainers, and managers. The most rewarding part is watching young people develop – seeing them grow in confidence, become more independent, and find their place within the company.”
She is particularly proud that her daughter Vanessa also works at Austrian Post: “It shows me that I’ve managed to pass on a positive impression of Austrian Post. The company offers so many opportunities, and Vanessa has seized them. It’s a real joy to watch her develop – both professionally and personally.”
Vanessa knew from an early age where she wanted to go: “I loved going with my mum to the delivery base, and even at primary school my dream job was to work at Austrian Post.” After finishing Year 9, she knew she wanted hands-on experience rather than continuing in school – so in 2018 she began her apprenticeship as an office administrator at Austrian Post. Today she works in the Training & Development team in HR, helping to shape lifelong learning at the company. Her role is varied: she organises workshops, supports training programmes, and designs welcome events for new employees and apprentices.
Working alongside her mum is something she sees as a real plus: “We have a great relationship, and even though we do different things, we exchange a lot of experiences and can really benefit from each other’s knowledge.”
For both of them, one thing is clear: Austrian Post not only offers a wide variety of tasks, but also genuine career prospects – from entry-level roles and apprenticeships through to further development. A culture of appreciation, strong teamwork, and numerous support programmes make Austrian Post a place where people enjoy working and can truly grow.
Dani’s advice for parents: “Let your children make their own decisions and take advantage of taster days to really get to know different professions. It’s only by trying things out that you find out what suits you.”
Vanessa’s advice for apprentices: “Be open, curious, and ask questions. Don’t be afraid of mistakes – they’re simply part of learning.”
