Career paths in transport logistics Sabrina Berger's and Tamara Sartory's path at Austrian Post

Sabrina Berger – a creative force in transport logistics

Sabrina Berger, a 28-year-old lorry driver from East Tyrol, has made a name for herself in the field of transport logistics. Her professional journey began in confectionery and food & beverage, but she soon sought a new challenge. A job advert caught her attention – an opportunity to work as a lorry driver for Austrian Post.
In November 2022, Sabrina began her career with Austrian Post and completed her HGV driver training through her new employer. She is based in Vomp, where she operates a range of vehicles daily – from a 5.5-tonne light lorry to a 26-tonne articulated truck.

“I work full-time, I’m proud to have completed the training, and I really value the great team spirit and the support from my female colleagues and dispatch team. The onboarding went smoothly – even while completing my driving course, I was already able to assist my colleagues with yard work and letter sorting. That early experience really helps me in my current role, as I was already familiar with the processes.

I don’t see any disadvantages as a woman in transport logistics – quite the opposite, the benefits outweigh the challenges. There are three of us women in the team – Milijana and Tamara also work as drivers. In my spare time, I enjoy being creative – painting and drawing are among my hobbies. And I’ve stayed true to powerful engines even outside of work – I ride a Honda Hornet motorbike.
My advice to all colleagues: don’t overthink what might not work. Have the courage to try something new. My family is proud of the path I’ve taken and has always encouraged me to pursue my passion.

I value that my employer gave me the chance to establish myself in a role that isn’t yet considered “typically” female. With my story, I hope to inspire others to imagine and pursue new paths.”

Tamara Sartory – a trailblazer in transport logistics

Tamara Sartory, a 30-year-old lorry driver from Tyrol, has carved out a successful career in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Born in Hall in Tirol and raised in Fritzens and Wattens, Tamara began her working life with an apprenticeship in retail. After a few years delivering for Austrian Post and taking a career break for her child, she returned to her delivery role in October 2022. A pivotal moment came when she saw a Facebook job advert from Austrian Post that motivated her to obtain her HGV licence. Despite working alongside her training, she successfully completed the course and earned her licence. By April 2024, she was already behind the wheel of a 26-tonne lorry.

“My job as a lorry driver is incredibly fulfilling – even if it can get hectic during peak periods like Christmas. The team spirit and cooperation among colleagues is fantastic. We can always rely on each other, and the dispatch team supports us tremendously.

I don’t see any downsides to being a woman in transport logistics – in fact, I see only advantages. My male colleagues are always happy to help if I ever need support.
I work closely with my colleague Sabrina, who is also a lorry driver. We each now have our own regular routes.

In my free time, I unwind by skiing and pursuing my great passion – horse riding. My family has enormous respect for my job and is proud that I’ve achieved my goal. For my daughter, who’s still in kindergarten, it’s completely normal that her mum is a lorry driver. I want her to one day choose a career she enjoys – free from stereotypes and expectations.”

Tamara especially values Austrian Post as an employer for its safe working environment, strong team culture and supportive leadership. These factors are key reasons she would recommend the company as a great place to work.
