Day of issue of the commemorative stamp "100th anniversary of the publication of 'The language of bees'""

In 1923, the Austrian zoologist and behavioural scientist Karl von Frisch published his work “On the ‘language’ of bees” in which he successfully decoded the dances of the Western honey bee (Apis mellifera). For this research, he received the Nobel Prize together with Konrad Lorenz and Nikolaas Tinbergen. Austrian Post is honouring this 100-year-anniversary and the dancing logistics experts with a dedicated miniature sheet in the shape of a honeycomb.

The new miniature sheet was presented by Harald Kunczier, head of business sector for branches at Austrian Post, Thomas Lackner, HDI Versicherung AG, and Angela Ungar from the Association of Urban Beekeepers in Vienna. The host for the special post office was HDI Versicherung in the 12th district in Vienna whose beehives have been under the care of the Urban Beekepers for many years, just like the Austrian Post beehives.
