With regional content, you can effectively attract the attention of your readers and not only create trust, but also strengthen the target groups' identification with your publication. Communicate local happenings, events and news: by focusing on regional topics, you can establish yourself as a reliable source of information and create a long-term connection to your product.

How the delivery of regional publications works

Requirements & planning

1. Criteria

For your items to be considered regional publications, please make sure that:

  • Items are unaddressed, with an identical content focus per issue
  • Items have the same title and appear in consecutive numbers with different content
  • Min. 24 pages per issue
  • Min. 25% of editorial content on local or regional events

If the following points apply to your items, they are NOT regional publications:

  • Items with predominantly (over 75%) or exclusively advertising content
  • Newspapers published in the name of companies or brands
  • Item formats beyond the prescribed shipping dimensions

2. Define your target group

Take your time to decide who you want to send your items to. You can specialise in advertising recipients, i.e. households without advertising waivers, or deliver to all regional households – however, please note that this can naturally lead to increased complaints from advertising waivers.

Preparing for shipping

  1. Registration agreement
    A registration agreement must be concluded for each newspaper title in order to send it as a regional publication. Just submit your application online via the electronic business customer portal ELLA at Prior registration for ELLA is not required!
  2. Prepare shipping documents
    Create the postings lists and bundle labels for all variations using the Austrian Post Posting Manager.
  3. Pre-notification of posting
    Announce each variation at least 3 business days (Mon-Fri) before delivery via the Austrian Post Posting Manager. 
  4. Provide a sample before posting
  5. Post your items
    As a final step, post your publications at the contractually agreed posting location during predefined times. You can find a list of the addresses and opening hours of our logistics centres in the download area.

Observe the following points and nothing will stand in the way of distributing your regional publications:

  • If delivery is to take place the following day, please bring your items to the destination distribution centre before 12:00 noon on business days (Mon-Fri) 
  • Bundling must be done in local bundles (cross-tied & sorted in ascending order by postcode)
  • Bundle height: 20-235 mm
  • Max. bundle weight: 10 kg
  • Enclose a fully completed bundle label with each bundle – do not forget to indicate the title and contract number!
  • You can deliver several bundles together on one pallet. Please note the maximum weight of 700 kg per pallet.

Supplements to regional publications

You have the option to add supplements or inserts to your regional publications. These must meet certain specifications depending on the type of supplement or insert:

1. Requirements for supplements

  • Supplements created by the in-house editorial staff
  • The supplement is added in the exclusive interest of the publisher/media owner
  • Not allowed: invoices, reminders, payment requests, fee updates

Price: the total weight of the publication including all supplements will determine the rate.

2. Requirements for third-party inserts

  • Max. 4 inserts per item
  • Max. total weight of all third-party inserts: 200 g
  • Inserts with third-party editorial or advertising content
  • Full or partial advertising envelopes (except when indicating the title and number on the first page of the publication and if there is consecutive numbering)
  • Advertising covers placed before the editorial cover page
  • Tip-on cards in the full or partial interest of third parties
  • Not allowed: invoices, payment reminders, payment requests, fee updates

If you are planning to add product samples to your insert, please check with Austrian Post in advance.
Price: for third-party inserts, we will charge a separate weight-dependent fee.
